I feel like I should explain my nickname; it’s the first initial of my last name, my parents call me ‘sweet pea’ and I grew up with 3 other ‘Louises’. So Pea became a name and it stuck!

I am 26 years old and still trying to figure out life (do you ever actually figure it out?). Depending on what quiz I take on Buzzfeed, I’m either a Millennial or Gen Z, that’s when I realised that people born between 1992-97 have completely different experiences in life then anyone else.

How it started. 

Like all ‘good’ decisions that you make in life; Marginally Millennial was a 3am slightly intoxicated thought during new year celebrations in 2019. It launched and retracted twice during 2020 but I decided to make the final leap in 2021 to rethink the idea and evolve it into what it is now.

What is it, you ask? It’s a lifestyle/ informational blog with a journalistic feel. Focussing on the questions that nobody told you to ask during your 20’s. From the ‘ How To’s’ to the ‘Why Do’s’ it’ll be here. I don’t pretend to know everything, but I have been blessed with great connections who will help too.

My first Marginally Millennial experience:

I used to love reading those ‘I grew up in the 90’s’ articles where they would include reminiscent photos of drinking from the garden hose and calling your friends on the landline. That was my childhood experience, but my teenage experience was far more relatable to Gen Z, I came of age on social media with iPhone in hand. That’s when I realised that nobody really knows where the cutoff between Millennial and Gen Z is, creating a cusp generation of 5 years where people experience both childhoods. But the common theme here is that nobody really prepares you for your 20’s and 30’s.

It feels like there are two pieces of advice you receive when you turn 20. It’s either; work as hard as you can or live you like want while you can. 

I don’t agree with either. 

Who am I?

Lulu or Lou, the only people who call me Louise are my parents or cold callers. 

I was raised by my grandparents which made my childhood experience even more challenging. My mother is from England and has a huge family. My father is from St Lucia and was adopted into a big family too.

I got an apprenticeship straight out of college, deferring my place at university, but during my time working, I realised that university wasn’t for me. I tirelessly chased my career and still work in financial services, I have almost 10 years experience in the corporate world and it’s taken me that long to finally find a balance that suits me.

My passions:

It took me a while to figure out my passions in life, if you struggle to find yours here is an exercise that helped me. Imagine that money wasn’t an issue, what would you be doing with your life?

Mine are:

• Animals – I would want a huge house with lots of land to rescue all the animals I could 
• Helping others – I want to help people find their voice and use it.
• Friends – Whenever I picture my retirement I am always sitting in the back garden with my friends. They keep my both inspired and grounded 
• Harry Potter – my home away from home, like most people in the fandom it was my escape from reality.
